I have used 2 of these. One is still working after several years. The other had spindle length problem, but the replacement was to use hard plastic connection to increase the length. It did not last as long as the other one which is still going well for several years. The great thing about the latch is the ability to open or lock from either side of the gate. I've purchased a new lock but have real problems with the instalation and I've had experience with 2 already. The spindle insertion into the cylinder spindle is very difficult to get the spindle into the match the matin slot. It also doesn't make sense to have the spindle to go through the post by only 1/4 inch and be able to insert that into the mating slot . I was careful following the instructions. All holes were drilled using a metal guide to carefully produce perfect holes, especilly the two large one. Some things just seemed not to work well. The step 7 never worked. The keys seemed to be stuck or something. Hard to even remove and the turn to counterclockwise or clockwise would not even be turned. I'm sorry, and I've done 2 of these, and they have worked. Maybe it was my fault of something, and I did hve to remove the cover to change the orientation. Oh well, since I'm unable to test STEP 7 because the keys won't change sufficiently , I cannot use it. I may purchase another one, and maybe I'll have a little better luck All the holes, etc are done. The one used now is perfect and the ability to open, or lock from either side is great to have. I'm frustrated, but this is what I've done.
